Plymouth’s cultural gem: unwrapping The Box

Many of us have had to sacrifice some of our favourite activities and interests over the last year or so – or make do with the online, socially distanced version instead. Arts and culture have certainly fallen into this bracket. So it’s great to now see these kinds of venues re-opening and getting back to (a new kind of) normal.

We’re especially delighted to welcome The Box back into the public eye. After its original launch in 2020 was somewhat diluted by you-know-what, it has now fully opened its doors and offers a brilliant summer programme.

The Box is a museum, art gallery, archive, café, shop and bar. It’s also an artwork in itself, with a striking elevated ‘archive in the sky’ and a major new public square for performances and events.

And the great news for us is that it’s only a few doors down from the Goodmans Plymouth office! So if you’re coming in to see us, make sure you put aside time to explore this world-class cultural gem. If you’re not a local but looking for your next staycation in the South West, it’s well worth a special trip.

Entry is free but there are some ticket costs for special exhibitions, which may also need to be booked in advance. This applies to the ‘Mayflower 400: Legend & Legacy’ exhibition (on until 2 January 2022) which explores the sailing of the Mayflower in 1620, the lives of the passengers and the cultural, demographic and personal legacies of this important chapter of our history.

Well worth a look.
